Located in one of the most-respected districts of Tuscany, the 11 ha (27 acres) of vineyard that constitutes Le Macchiole produce some of the most exceptional wines of Bolgheri. Quality has become the central theme since Cinzia Merli Campolmi took over the property, and her consultant Luca d’Attoma has helped to achieve awesome results. Bottling its own wines since 1975, the domain took advantage of the recognition of the area in 1984 and really exploded in popularity when its cuvee “Paleo” finished first in a comparative tasting of Tuscan wines in 1992. When, in 1995 at VinItaly, Paleo finished second behind Ch. Pichon Lalande, everyone finally realized that this was one of, if not THE, best domains of the region. Quality is so important at Le Macchiole that the yield is limited to the equivalent of one bottle of wine per stalk. Their entire range of wine is incredible to drink, that is IF you can get your hands on it.
